When I first moved to Qatar...
One of the questions I got from my friends back home was:
“Is it actually safe there?”
And they’re not alone.
Just recently...
I read one traveller’s post in a popular travel group on Facebook:

Then... the comments came flooding in:

...and they're all right!
From my experience living here...
I can tell you that Qatar is one of the safest countries in the world.
Whether you’re a British tourist visiting for a few days...
Or you're just moving here long-term as an expat...
Safety is rarely something you’ll have to worry about.
That said...
Let me answer some questions you might have, properly:
Question 1: Is Qatar Safe for British Tourists?
The short answer is a big YES.
Qatar has one of the lowest crime rates globally.
Petty theft is almost unheard of, and violent crime is practically non-existent.
I feel safer walking the streets of Doha at midnight than I do walking through central London at 9 PM.
Public transport, taxis, and even ride apps like Uber and Karwa are reliable and safe to use.
Question 2: Is Qatar Safe for Expats from the UK?
As someone who actually packed up and moved here...
I can tell you that Qatar is a really fantastic place to live.
British expats often choose gated communities or high-rise apartments with 24/7 security.
But truth be told...
You could live outside of those and still feel safe.
The biggest “danger” you might face is probably the heat - and that's not a crime, huh? 😎
Question 3: Is Qatar Safe for Women and Families?
Yes. Qatar is very family-oriented, and it is also surprisingly safe for solo female travellers.
You’ll find plenty of family-friendly malls, parks, and attractions here.
Solo women can comfortably use public transport, taxis, and ride-share apps.
Just remember the modesty guidelines, and you’ll have no problems.
Many women would actually feel safer in Doha than in many UK cities.
NOW, THIS IS WHERE IT GETS FUN
Knowing Qatar is safe is one thing.
But actually enjoying Qatar like a 5-star traveller while sticking to a 2-star budget…
