Two Weeks Across Bali, Lombok and Kuala Lumpur
This trip had everything. Airport capsules, volcano views, rainstorms, halal food missions and a horror night in Lombok. Travel is unpredictable, and this journey proved it in the best way.
Doha to Bali
We kicked off with an early flight and some karak before boarding. A surprise upgrade set the tone nicely. Landing in Bali, we headed to our villa in Sanur. It was peaceful but a little too quiet for us, so we explored the Icon Mall. The contrast between areas is huge in Bali. Luxury on one side, extremely simple streets on the other.
Bali Swings, Volcano Views and Coffee You Know About
Breakfast at the villa followed by the iconic Bali Swing. Terrifying but unforgettable. We travelled to Kintamani next and the volcano views were unreal.
On the way down we spotted spiders the size of your palm. Not ideal. Then a coffee plantation visit where we tried civet coffee again. Still not convinced by coffee handled by animals. But the teas were unreal.
When Bali Turns Rainy
Bali weather switched overnight. Monsoon mood. We explored a little, hit the Everything 100 shop and then battled traffic to Seminyak. We prayed at Seminyak Village and ate at Al Jazeera. If you want halal Middle Eastern food in Bali, it is one of the safest options.
Lombok: Beautiful but Chaotic
Nusa Penida got cancelled due to weather, so we headed to Lombok. The island is gorgeous but this part of the trip felt cursed. Our accommodation situation felt like a horror movie. Without over dramatising, we woke up and decided to leave immediately.
Sometimes travel is simply knowing when to go.
Redemption in Kuala Lumpur
As soon as we landed in KL, everything felt better. Friendly people, clean streets and halal food everywhere. We rested the first night and then explored Mid Valley Megamall the next day. Sales everywhere and food that hits differently.
Petronas, Food and a Mall in the Clouds
We ate at Kenny Rogers, explored the Petronas Towers, then discovered Genting Highlands. A mall surrounded by clouds. Even a 7 eleven in the mist. It felt surreal. On our last few days we visited TRX Mall, Pavilion, the New York style crossing and tried wagyu street food.
KL saved the trip.
Final Thoughts
This trip was not perfect and that is what made it memorable. Bali tested our patience. Lombok tested our nerves. Kuala Lumpur reminded us why travel is worth it. Would we go back? Yes, but differently. And definitely with more weather awareness.
